Wintley Phipps

Wintley Augusta Phipps was born in Trinidad, West Indies and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He matriculated through Kingsway College, a Christian Academy, then through Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theology. He received a Masters of Divinity Degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Mr. Phipps is a spirit-filled preacher, world-renowned vocal artist, and innovative initiator of special projects. He is the founder and president of the U.S. Dream Academy, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing an on-line, values-based, interactive, tutorial and remedial education program targeted to at-risk children and youth through community Family Learning Centers. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America and has served on several boards such as, the Council for Religious Freedom, and Prison Fellowship Ministries. He is also a member of the Children, Youth and Families Initiative Advisory Team for Prison Fellowship Ministries. He served as the Assistant to the President of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, Assistant to the President of Bowie State College in Bowie, Maryland, and later became the founder of the International Institute for Religious Freedom.

Mr. Phipps has been the featured speaker and performer at many notable occasions around the world. He has sung for Presidents William Jefferson Clinton and Ronald Regan at several of their Prayer Breakfasts. He performed for both the 1984 and 1988 National Democratic Conventions; the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. television special; Dr. Robert Schuler's Hour of Power Telecast; the Billy Graham Crusades; the Vatican; the National Easter Seal Telethon; The Spicer College Celebration; the Son City Crusade; the Rosa Parks Birthday Celebration; and was the special guest soloist at Diana Ross' wedding ceremony in Switzerland. He has also conducted gospel music lectures on several continents including Europe, Australia, Africa and the United States.

Mr. Phipps has performed on Saturday Night Live as well as Sunday Live and has been the special guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show and CBS Nightwatch. Mr. Phipps was nominated for Grammy Awards in 1988 and 1989. He is the author of The Power of a Dream (1996), founder of Songs of Freedom Publishing Company and Coral Records Recording Company.

Mr. Phipps served as senior pastor to several churches in the Washington DC metropolitan area, including the Capitol Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church. He currently serves as the pulpit pastor of the Seabrook Seventh-day Adventist Church in Seabrook, Maryland.

Mr. Phipps is married to the lovely Linda Diane Galloway Phipps (an RN) and they have been blessed with three fine sons: Wintley Augustus, II, Winston Adriel, and Wade Alexander.
