Quick Overview

There is no doubt that Ellen White had a profound interest in Christian education—she wrote numerous articles, pamphlets, and books on the subject. Flowing throughout these writings is one constant, abiding theme: education is to bring the student ever nearer to God. It begins at home and continues into the school, but always "true education embraces physical, mental, and moral training, in order that all the powers shall be fitted for the best development, to do service for God, and to work for the uplifting of humanity" (p. 387).

Containing articles drawn from various sources, the book does not duplicate selections from her others books on education (with the exception of the first chapter). Such topics as the proper education of the young, the basis of true education, teachers as examples of Christian integrity, and the true ideal for youth are arranged chronologically to emphasize the historical setting.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY:

Ellen G. White

Ellen G. White was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827 – 1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages, and many readers consider her classic on the life of Christ, The Desire of Ages, to be her greatest work.
