Quick Overview

Sometimes a gift becomes a curse.

Joseph learned the hard way as a brand-new coat sent his life careening wildly off course, his life twisted by his brothers’ hatred. Once a prince in Canaan, now he was a slave in Egypt.

But Joseph would have the last word. Because God can turn tragedy into triumph.

The amazing story of Joseph has everything: intrigue, suspense, violence, forgiveness, glamour, seduction, strange dreams, and a dramatic twist at the end. It tells us that injustice cannot keep good people down. No matter how dark the past, the future can be brighter than our fondest dreams.

Based on careful research, this book offers something for the whole family. Even seasoned Bible scholars will learn intriguing new facts about Joseph’s world. Names, places, and customs are carefully explained in depth in supplementary material.

But most of all it’s loads of fun for boys and girls. Kids of all ages will thrive on these tantalizing vitamins for the soul: well-crafted stories that settle gently into their tender hearts and mold their destiny.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY:

Ruth Redding Brand

Ruth Redding Brand, assistant professor of English at Atlantic Union College in Massachusetts, has written the main stories in this book. Bible stories have fascinated her from the time she was a child. When the Review and Herald Publishing Association invited her to explore the Holy Land with the late Siegfried Horn, a world-renowned archaeologist and eminently knowledgeable tour guide, she eagerly accepted. That experience (along with a lot of research) gave her access to an authenticity of detail that makes the narratives in the Family Bible Story books live and breathe.

Brand was raised on a dairy farm in Maine and grew up milking cows, haying, riding hefty workhorses, and pulling weeds in acres of corn and cucumbers. As an adult she has taught elementary school and junior high as well as college. Since earning her Master's degree in English, she has taught English at Fitchburg State College and Atlantic Union College.

She lives in Lancaster, Massachusetts, with her husband, Bob, and pampered cat, Sky. She is blessed with two adult children, Jeffrey and Heidi, and their respective spouses, Krista (Motschiedler) and Troy Clark. Brand loves to read, play word games, walk on the beach, and swim, but she'll drop any of these activities in a heartbeat to spend time with her granddaughter, little Miss Emma Mae Clark!

Great Story

This book tells the story of Joseph different than any other book. Experts on the Middle East show pictures and draw the Jews as they were believed to have looked. It also shows photographs of Modern Israel in some cases look no different than in Joseph's time. This is a more scholarly but down to earth story about Joseph and the people of his time. There is also a 1 page story for children. The artwork is outstanding.
