Excellent Story. Of the Gullah slaves on the Weldon Oaks plantation in South CarolinaI loved this series. This is book one. My only complaint is that there are only 5 five in the series. I love how the the Gullah language sounds. I had not heard of the Gullah people off the coast of South Carolina until I started reading this excellent series.. Even though the author sometimes uses the Gullah Language which is pidgin English her meaning was always clear. The characters are well defined so you really get to know them and their hearts. This books stands alone to read or you call read all 5. This is the story of the surviving members of the once magnificent Weldon Oaks plantation in the south Sea Islands of South Carolina. This is the First book in this series. Master Gilbert is the owner of the Beautiful Weldon Oaks plantation. His young son Gilly is about 8 years old and he loves playing with his best friend and constant companion Zach, a young black slave. They have much fun and adventure together.
