Desmond Doss Conscientous Objector

The first time I saw this video my ex-husband and I; both veterans went to our kids church school and watched this.I was so impressed by Mr. Doss that I bought and have kept a copy of this DVD. IN 1940. President Roosevelt authorizes conscientious objectors. Not long after that Doss joins the Army as a medic. The Army tries to discharge him because he will not carry a gun. But Doss protests I want to be a medic and I do not want to carry a gun. Doss is made fun of, until they go to the far east to fight Japan. About 100 or more soldier are trapped on a cliff above their fellow soldiers, no one but Doss will go up there and help them down.Doss becomes a great war hero and he is awarded the Presidential medal of honor by President Harry Truman. With God's guidance Doss prepares the way for other conscientious objectors such as Mike Vartunek , a conscientious objector from my hometown of Akron, Ohio. Mike made the headlines of the Sunday Akron Beacon journal for his bravery and being awarded several purple hearts in Vietnam. To quote
, President Kennedy "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." This is exactly with God'e leading Desmond Doss did. Incidentally, Mr. Doss recently passed away at the ripe age of 87.I look forward to meeting Desmond Doss, a great man of God in heaven.
