Quick Overview

Why is Christ called “the Son of God”? Discover an answer so simple you’ll wonder why you never saw it before—and so beautiful it’ll take your breath away.

No matter who you are or what position you have taken on the Sonship of Christ, you have no doubt felt the tension and complexity involved in trying to make sense out of the two apparently contradictory claims in Scripture.

On the one hand, the Bible calls Jesus God’s “only begotten Son” (John 3:16) and describes Him as occupying a subordinate position under the Father (John 14:28; 1 Corinthians 15:27-28).

On the other hand, Scripture also states that Jesus is “in very nature God,” insisting that He shares “equality with God” (Philippians 2:5-6) and that He is the One who “made” all things that are “made,” placing Him, by contrast, in the unmade category (John 1:1-3). He is even called “the everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6, KJV), the eternal “I AM” (Exodus 3:14; John 8:58), and “the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8).

The tension between the two identities is immediately apparent.

The solution needs to be consistent with both of these claims…

and worthy of our wonder.

Author, Ty Gibson, has written an easy-to-read book that explores the overall narrative of the Bible, as the big story it actually is, with key characters played out in an overarching, intentional plot line. By doing this, the meaning of the Sonship of Christ becomes unmistakably evident. If we really want to understand the sense in which Jesus is the Son of God, we need to pan out from our selected verses to take in the grand historical tale of both the Old and New Testaments.

And when we do that, a whole new world of biblical understanding opens before us and there is no need for strained interpretations.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY:

Ty Gibson

At the age of 18 Ty Gibson encountered the truth of God’s existence for the first time. After having been raised with a purely secular worldview and having witnessed firsthand much evil and suffering, Ty was completely opposed to the idea of a Supreme Being. “If a God exists at all,” he reasoned, “wouldn’t He have to be cruel to have made a world like ours?” Ty’s conversion as a teenager was founded upon the answer to that question. Since then Ty has given his life to the joyous task of sharing God’s good character in public seminars as well as through print and video media. Ty is codirector/speaker of Light Bearers, an international publishing and teaching ministry that provides shipments of truth-filled literature to the church in developing countries. More than 500 million gospel publications in more than 30 languages have been put into circulation to date. As the speaker for digma.com, Ty creates short videos that address the most important issues of life. He has authored eight books, including See With New Eyes, An Endless Falling in Love, and his more recent release, A God Named Desire. Ty and his wife, Sue, live in Oregon and have three delightful offspring.

Wonderful!

The Sonship of Christ is a book that lays out the covenant promises of God and what it really means to be “son of God”. The way Ty Gibson writes this book makes it easy to understand and follow. It does not bog you down with wordy language, but gets straight to the point. Love it!!! Thank you for this book! It is a must read for everyone. I especially like the way Ty gives a perspective from the whole view of the Bible, putting it in greater context!
